Fixer Upper Friday: The Straight 80's House

I'm excited to debut a new series on the blog dedicated to all those Fixer Upper fanatics like me- "Fixer Upper Friday".  Every Friday I hope to share a few of my favorite swoon-worthy spaces from recent episodes, and share some budget-friendly picks + tips for recreating the style in your own home.  Today I'm starting with last week's "Straight 80's House," focusing on the classic kitchen + dining room.  The decor in these spaces really reminded me of the traditional "Fixer Upper" style, so I thought it was the perfect choice to get started!

This dining room isn't the largest but I love the cozy feel and all the neutrals really make it feel more open!  I love how Joanna always adds some architectural elements to bring character to every space: the mantle + molding piece over the door are such great details.  Vintage architectural elements like this are easy to find at salvage stores, Habitat Restores, Craigslist, and Ebay.  The light linen paint color on the wall adds just the right amount of warmth to the room + I love the coordinating rug (I've linked some similar rugs below!).  I have always loved round dining tables and they are a great option for small spaces.  The upholstered dining chairs have that French Country flair + add so much elegance to the room.

My favorite part of this space is the simple arrangement on the mantle.  I love the collection of vintage white plates, pitchers, + silver pieces.  These are all things that can easily be found on the cheap at thrift stores, flea markets, or garage sales, but I've also linked some newer options below.  The collection of bread boards looks perfect leaned up against the wall + adds a little contrast to all the white.

This kitchen is so classic + timeless and I love the bright, clean feel.  These open-lantern style pendants have been popping up everywhere and are my favorite type of island lighting lately.  I love how Joanna chose a grayish subway tile for a little contrast against all the white cabinets + countertops AND how she did a contrasting chevron pattern above the stove!  That little mantle detail on the range hood is also amazing and such a good idea to create a focal point in the room.

What do I love most about this kitchen? THE DOUBLE ISLAND!  I'm so jealous of that feature and love this idea so much!  I cannot get over ALL the storage in this kitchen, as literally every inch is used, yet it still has that open feel.  I love all the light in this room and the unique layout with an additional little seating area for kids tucked away to the right.  These barstools add a touch of French Country style to coordinate with the dining room too.  I really love this bistro style of stool because it looks great with so many different types of decor (traditional, French country, bohemian, rustic) and will never go out of style.  I've rounded up some similar stools below, as well as decor, and even some flooring options to give you the same look as this beautiful kitchen!   What was your favorite part of the Straight 80's House renovation?  If you have a favorite Fixer Upper room, or suggestion for a future Fixer Upper Friday, please let me know if the comments!
